Aurat March/Women March

The Aurat March, also known as Women’s March, is an annual event that takes place in different cities of Pakistan on International Women’s Day (March 8th). The march is organized by a coalition of women’s rights organizations, activists, and individuals who advocate for gender equality and women’s rights.

The Ladies March aims to raise awareness about women’s issues and highlight the discrimination and violence that women face in Pakistan. The march also calls for an end to patriarchal norms and practices that perpetuate gender-based violence and inequality.

The first Aurat March was held in Karachi in 2018, and since then, it has spread to other cities, including Lahore, Islamabad, and Quetta. The march has become a significant platform for women’s voices to be heard and for demanding justice, equality, and respect for women’s rights.

However, the Women March has also faced criticism and backlash from conservative groups who see the event as being against traditional values and Islamic teachings. Some groups have even threatened violence against participants, leading to concerns about the safety of marchers.

Despite these challenges, the Aurat March continues to be a vital platform for women’s voices to be heard and for the fight for gender equality and women’s rights in Pakistan.
