In Pakistan, second marriages are legal and can be performed under the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961. However, there are certain conditions that must be met before a second marriage / Second Nikah can take place, such as obtaining the consent of the first wife permission/1st spouse (permission for 2nd marriage) and obtaining a court (Arbitration Council / Salsi council ) the first spouse is unable to give consent.
