Divorce Laws / Separation
Divorce laws in Pakistan are governed by the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance, which is based on Islamic law. Under this law, men have the right to unilaterally divorce their wives, while women must go through a court process to obtain a divorce. A woman can seek a divorce on grounds such as cruelty, desertion, or impotency of the husband. The husband must also provide financial support to his wife during the divorce proceedings and for a period of time afterwards. Additionally, the court can order the husband to pay a “dower” dower amount (a sum of money agreed upon at the time of marriage) to the wife at the time of divorce. The process of divorce can be lengthy and complicated in Pakistan, and it is recommended that individuals seek legal assistance. Divorce lawyer, divorce attorney, Family Lawyer
